SACRAMENTOS
Los sacramentos —en la teología de la Iglesia católica— son signos bastante sensibles y eficaces de la gracia de Dios a través de los cuales se otorga la vida divina; es decir, ofrecen al creyente el ser hijos adoptivos de Dios. Fueron instituidos por Jesucristo y confiados a la Iglesia.
Los sacramentos se administran en distintos momentos de la vida del cristiano y simbólicamente la abarcan por entero, desde el bautismo (que se suele administrar a los niños) hasta la unción de los enfermos (que antes del Concilio Vaticano II se aplicaba sólo a los que estuvieran en peligro de muerte).
La mayoría de los sacramentos sólo pueden ser administrados por un sacerdote
BAUTISMO
Nuestros padres nos dieron la vida natural del cuerpo, pero Dios nos da el lma y nos destina, además, a una vida sobrenatural; nacemos privados de ella por el pecado original, heredado de Adán.
El bautismo borra el pecado original, nos da la fe y la vida divina, y nos hace hijos de Dios. La Santísima Trinidad toma posesión del alma y comienza a santificarnos. Según el plan de amor del Señor, el bautismo es necesario para la salvación.
